This is a review of Glendronach Cask Strength batch #4 bottled at 54.7%. The sample for this review came from my own bottle.
N: Dates, raisins, orange peel, honey, some fresh citrus, fresh cut wood, nuts, and small amount of ginger. I find this very nicely balanced.
P: Raisins, malt, honey, sweet sherry, cinnamon, ginger, walnuts, oranges, oak. Nice thick mouthfeel.
F: Medium-long. Sweet raisins, nuts, and some spice slowly fade away.
Overall: This is a very nice dram. I like how it is balanced between the sweet PX and dry Oloroso sherry notes and has some depth as I notice some nice malt/honey/ginger notes in the background beyond the heavy sherry influence. This is also pleasant to drink at full strength and I don’t think any water is needed. My only small criticism is that I think this could use a little more complexity to really take it to the next level but all in all this is a very well put together and satisfying malt.
